Russia's military docrine, if you want to call it that, is one of scorched Earth. Its the laziest way and most brutal way of war not that different from Germany in WW1. That is you carpet bomb every hospital, home, school, railway, food silo etc etc from a distance and then you move infantry in.
This works against the mighty Georgia, Chechens and defenceless Syrians but its not a way to pacify a people you believe to be your own. Further, the Russians have developed an over inflated ego that fascist nations get. That their military is more masculine and tough than say the weak effeminate West with its LGBTQ. The Russians got a nasty surprise when they realised just how incompetent and corrupt they are when it came to a real challenge.
