Hello!
Since we haven’t done one of these in a while, we thought we’d send a short update. We’ve had a lot of new subscribers, so we also want to use this opportunity to introduce the newsletter again.
About us
The Hundred is written by Marcel Dirsus and David Landry. Marcel is a political scientist and Non-Resident Fellow at the Institute for Security Policy at Kiel University. He mainly works on regime instability, political violence and foreign policy. David is a political economist and Assistant Professor at Duke Kunshan University. He researches the determinants and impacts of Chinese economic engagement abroad.
Our newsletter
We started The Hundred because we became disillusioned with Twitter. There’s a flood of information, misinformation, and disinformation out there, and we have short attention spans. This newsletter is an attempt to cut through the noise to help all of us make sense of the world. If you’re looking for informed analysis from people who genuinely know what they’re talking about, this is where you’ll find it.
Our contributors
Dozens and dozens of leading experts have contributed to The Hundred. In selecting them, we never aim to create artificial conflict for the sake of disagreement. If they disagree, that’s fine. If they don’t, that’s fine too. So far, we’ve had contributors from places like Harvard University, MIT, University of Oxford, Australian National University, Peking University (China), Keio University (Japan), Sao Paulo Business School (Brazil), the Brookings Institution, the RAND Corporation, the European Council on Foreign Relations, and the Centre for Policy Research (India).
Our community
We’re happy to say that the newsletter now has over 5,500 subscribers!
The flat line in the middle represents the break we took to work on other things. Since we started posting again, we’ve had a lot of new subscribers. Welcome! We’re glad to have you here. We’re amazed by the geographic diversity of our readership. The Hundred now has readers in 50 US states and 120 countries, including Chile, Mexico, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, Kazakhstan, India, Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea.
Our archive
The archive now includes previous editions on everything from the failures of the Russian military to North Korean nuclear weapons and the state of China’s economy. The full archive can be found here.
What’s next?
We’re trying to make this as informative and readable as possible. What do you enjoy about the newsletter? Do you prefer the short editions or the longer interviews? What do you want to learn about? Are there any experts in particular that you would like us to feature? Would you like to see longer contributions? Perhaps even audio interviews? Let us know what you think. You can comment below or reply to this email. Thank you very much for your feedback.
All the best,
Marcel & David
Short editions all the way!
But here and there a deep dive into a specific topic seems, at least for me, like a very good idea.
Some topics should be a little longer than a hundred Words, or at least I want them to be.
Thanks!
